CURVED FURNISHINGS

March 25th, 2019

WHY IS CURVED FURNITURE SUCH A BIG INTERIORS TREND IN 2019?

Traditionally, angular edges and sharp lines have ruled interiors movements and architectural design. In 2019, this is set to change. The latest trend embraces beautiful curved corners and semicircular shapes. Scalloped patterns and softer edges are dominating interiors magazines, blogs and Instagram posts. Here at Bisque, we’ve delved into this new style and compiled our top five tips to implement this look at home:

TIP ONE: INVEST IN ROUNDED FURNITURE

Circular ottoman? Velvet pouffes? These may be obvious options when it comes to rounded furniture, but as the trend for spherical design picks up pace, many traditional furnishings have been re-imagined, such as kitchen cabinetry and bedside tables.  Just look at this compact Parisian apartment. Designed by French firm Batiik Studio, it brings retro curves right into the 21st century with a series of arches inspired by Moroccan and Greek architecture.

Another fanciful example of this trend comes from design duo, 2LG Studio, who recently bought their London pad bang up-to-date with their delightfully rounded kitchen design. From the scalloped edged doors to romantic touches of baby pink, the dynamic pair effortlessly adopted this style in their own home. The refurbishment saw the couple design a kitchen range for John Lewis of Hungerford. The cabinetry features inspiring curved tops complemented perfectly with soft pale pinks. We even spy our Classic radiator, colour-matched to perfection with Mylands’ Rose Theatre paint.

TIP TWO: CONSIDER CURVED WALLS

Before you knock down that unusually curved wall, consider the multitude of ways in which this space can be put to good use! These curved cubby holes can become the perfect nook for a reading lamp and chair to snuggle up with your favourite book. Or, even better, why not consider one of our bespoke radiators for your rounded walls or even a bay window? Our made-to-measure service means even the most unusual of spaces can be put to good use. Not only will our curved radiators make the ultimate style statement, but your home will be perfectly warm and cosy. What’s not to love?

TIP THREE: REFLECT ON ARCHED MIRRORS

Mirrors are well known for their ability to add depth and room to any space. Traditionally rectangular models have been popular, but in 2019 it’s all about arched mirrors. Taking inspiration from Victorian properties or churches, ‘window like’ mirrors are an excellent way to add balance to your living room or bedroom. Another popular choice is that of circular mirrors. When grouped together these are an exceptional way to make a style-statement.

Who says your sound systems must-be rectangular and boring? Welcome to 2019, where round-speakers rule. If you’re a design-conscious music lover, then you may wish to pay attention to Bang & Olufsen’s Beosound Edge. This minimalist object is both striking and circular in its design, but also features the latest cutting-edge technology, such as intuitive rolling volume control.

TIP FOUR: IMPLEMENT A CIRCUCLAR SOUND SYSTEM

TIP FIVE: GO RETRO WITH YOUR LIGHTING

Curved designs have always been popular in lighting. From rounded lampshades to spherical tableside lamps, softer edges are becoming common place. Many retro inspired lamps are appearing on the market; we particularly love this art deco-inspired Hudson retro metal table lamp, pictured below in a splendid gold finish.
