The most obvious place for my radiators is under the window and behind curtains. Will all the heat go out of the windows?

No. It's not ideal, but many people do this as it is sometimes the only practical solution. If you have to do this, increase the size of your radiator by about 30%, or locate an additional radiator elsewhere in the room.
